Don
Chedi Monument is located in the vicinity of
Tambon Don Chedi, Si Prachan District, 31 kms
from Suphan Buri City. The pagoda was constructed
by the royal command of King Naresuan the Great
to command his victory against the enemy in
single hand elephant back combat.
In 1913 the chedi was
found in ruined condition
and only the base part can be seen. It was
renovated by having a new pagoda built, covering
the original one, in 1952 by the government.
(Bangkoksite Photos taken
on September 5, 2000
and lately on January 19, 2002).
A
cast statue of King Naresuan the Great
mounting on elephant's neck was placed
in front of the pagoda.
