Phra Mae Ya Shrine is situated in front of the City Hall.
This is the highly respected shrine by Sukhothai residents.
It houses an idol of Phra Mae Ya, a stone figure with a
white face and long hair, and dressed as an ancient queen.
the idol is about 1 metre high and believed to be built
during the reign of King Ramkhamhaeng as a dedication
to his late mother Nang Suang.

Phra Mae Ya Festival
Phra Mae Ya festival is held in the early part of February
every year and mostly in conjunction with the Red Cross
Society Fair of the province. Exhibitions and shows are
held by various government agencies, along with shops
selling local products. Also, there are entertainments
such as immitation of classical dance for commoners
(Ligay), folk dance (Lamtad), Movies, and so on.
