Ivory
Carving (แกะสลักงาช้าง) The ivory carving objects are displayed in room No. 8A. Ivory Howdah (Kub Chang), is actually in room No.6. This beautiful example of an intricately pierced design shows the ivory carvers' skill at its best. The howdah is a functional piece, a chair in effect, which because it is placed on the elephants back, must be a sturdy piece of furniture. This howdah was presented to the King Chulalongkorn by the Prince of Chiangmai in the early 20th century. Manuscript cover and details. Ivory, 58 cm long, 5 cm wide. 19th century, Bangkok period.
